Small world. I lived in Gosport for many years and went up that
way often. My teacher was also an evening newsreader for Southern
Television, as it was then, and a couple of us used to go up there with
him now and then to hang out and be nuisances in the Northam studio

He had a small sound studio in Portswood we visited a couple of
times. One of his fascinating machines was a cutter for vinyl masters,
which he'd used to make his own 7" singles. He must have known
someone with a press. The one I really remember was The William
Tell Overture made up from all sorts of sound effects

In the summer we'd be strawberry picking around Netley and being
perpetually late home

sigh.......
