Stepping back for a moment and considering that maybe adding that NOP to your code DID break the code somehow opens you to seeing that yes, you just crossed a certain address that exposed a bug in the compiler. Unfortunately, there is a certain level of debugging that cannot be taught, some people have it, some people don't.
