This was obviously also a problem long ago and far far away.

It's not obvious whether eg R2D2 and eg C3PO are part of eg

          (A-Z,0-9)^4 =3D 1,679,616

or are a subset of a larger NLA set or some other system.

I think it was in Episode 6 (afair) when LS returns from the mission
with R2D2 badly damaged, someone refers to it as either a D2 unit or
an R2 unit, suggesting the naming may be of form (xx)^2.(yy)^2 - so
the name space may be sparse and so < or <<< than 36^4 as above.
