Last time I seen a meter blow like that was when I worked for a major=20 company as an electrician. On 480VAC 3 PHASE equipment we would test=20 for a blown fuse by setting the meter on 1000v setting and measure=20 across the fuse. If there was a voltage present the fuse was blown in=20 most cases. We were also taught to no hold the meter in our hand, only=20 the probes, while working with higher voltage It was common practice for the production workers to distract the new=20 guys and change the meter to ohms setting. When you tested an open fuse=20 the meter would blow as the one pictured. This was in the mid 70's and=20 the meter was about $50 price range. I had 1 week left on my probation. I filed a grievance with the union=20 against the person. To make the story short I was told to withdraw the=20 grievance or the union would blacklist me.
