The current trend is DMX over Ethernet. Each DMX universe handles 170=20
RGB pixels. 4000 LED channels on less than 8 DMX universes.

There are boards available <http://www.j1sys.com/ecg-dmxren8/> that=20
convert E1.31 (streaming DMX) into 8 universes for about USD $200.

As I said, checked out those Christmas forums.  There's some really good=20
stuff there.
