> Is the National Day similar? "Legally" it is from Oct 1 - 3, but some ob= servances are from 1st - 7th. > > Does this just depend on the company? Do Chinese companies have to respe= ct the "legal" holiday duration? I can't say what all do - A company that I presently am dealing with gave me clear advice about holiday dates BUT failed to tell me about what they did outside these dates as a consequence. (Another hasn't told me what they are doing at all. I'll find out if they aren't there I guess.) They have 22-24 September inclusive off for mid Autumn day and 1-7 October off for national "day" (October 1st is about erquivalent to US July 4th.). BUT they then worked weekends when they would not normally do so to make up for the holiday days. I was told that transport is full and bookings have to be made well in advance, so the long break seems to be widespread. (I was told when I was in China at last CNY that I should take extra care in out of the way public places as people without enough money to get home may be looking for creative means of obtaining the fare. Several people got very nervous about me wandering around by myself but I never noticed any hint of adverse behaviour (apart from one exceptionally pushy beggar on one occasion). I've also found that CNY observation varies widely - from about 3 days up to over a week (10 days?). Makes it hard to plan around :-).
