There is also value in newness when it comes to music. I noticed=20 > that > when I listen to the internet radio and hear the same song more than a fe= w > times a day, it starts to irritate me. :) I think both points are context related. Advertising certainly works wonder= s=20 on people when it's a "one off" type of product, which could be said of man= y=20 manufactured pop bands and to a lesser extent the latest in fashion (and=20 many other things) If they can generate enough hype and suspense about=20 forthcoming "marvels", then by the time people have noticed it's all smoke= =20 and mirrors they have already parted with their hard earned money.. Having been part of the music business, I have seen first hand manufactured= =20 bands, thrown together, loads of advertising, profit made very quickly, and= =20 forgotten about happily (not by the band members usually) a year later,=20 possibly less (I won't launch into a rant about cynical moneymaking=20 destroying the arts here :-) ) On the other side of things, with the kind of products I think Vitaliy was= =20 talking of (even the new C64 which will indeed probably sell a few on "name= "=20 alone) then advertising surely carries less weight and shipping a quality=20 product is far more important, given the fact there is a name to keep=20 "clean" and more demanding/experienced customers.=20 --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
