Yep, Bit of a rude awakening at 4:35 this morning. Very violent shaking that seemed to go on forever, but was probably only a couple of minutes or less. Most of the damage appears to be to old double (& triple) brick buildings. More modern wooden frame and tilt slab appear to have survived OK except a couple pulled of their piles. My own house, a 20yr old double story wood frame building about 40km from the epicemtre- no apparent damage. One ornament broken & a some pictures fallen down. And a coffee jar emptied itself onto the floor. Got the power back on at about 2pm and after that things started feeling normal again. We are being told to boil drinking water and minimise water and cellphone use. It's the aftershocks that get you- is it going to get worse? How long will it last? Anyway a "useful" experience and we are some of the lucky ones. Just had another one (aftershock) guessing at 4 or so on "the scale" - quite sharp & made me jump a bit!
