I only had problems when beginning with FreeRTOS, solved after I found
a bug in the FreeRTOS code. Never had problems with printf anymore, with
or without a RTOS, and I use some very complicated printf's.

Did you set memory-model related options accordingly (code model, data
model, stack model)?
