I'm advised that that's not good practice.
Apparently there is a message thread field in the message header
(sorry for the lack of correct terminology) that is used for threading
by email clients that "do things properly".

While this is not what is done by many clients (those which don't
follow the riles fully), some will get 'confused' by this practice and
will combine the new messages with those from the prior thread, with
no apparent reason for doing so.
