I don't see any reason to read the LCD Two things (and others), that you probably know, are to use the CG RAM as off-board storage space for the PIC, and testing the Busy flag, which is helpful in time-sensitive applications The LCD pull-up current is weak, equivalent to about a 40k ohm resistor. Surely the PICKIT2 can overcome that ?
