The reply from Crash himself: .... Actually, no. Using a peeled DRAM as an imaging sensor was someone else's idea. We just happened to be in the right place at the right time to acutally use the technology (it's what ended up in the Nintendo Game Boy camera. B/W, 128x128, but hey, that was a long, long time ago.)... and Mitsubishi actually made a product that was essentially an optimized CMOS DRAM with analog outputs and a clear plastic case, for just this application.
