Do you have eg a 3V cpu and eg 5V on the POT?

Or - measure processor Vdd.
Measure voltage at 'hot' end of pot.

The current that you report iswell outside the spec expected for any normal=
 A2D.

Can you provide links to the documents you are looking at. Speeds up
finding them and guarantees we are all on the same page (literally in
this case).
