I agree in general with that BUT for more throw away uses the tinyurl link aloneis extremely useful. It greatly declutters copy to be able to tell people eg tinyurl.com/RussellsWeddingPhotos* alone. (* Great idea - I just created that link after having made it up randomly := -) ). The service has been available for many many years (1 decade plus - maybe much more?) - It has very very minor ads now and for years had none at all. An immensely valuable service - essentially a manual DNS system :-).
