Here in the tree hugger state (California), you would be advised to use
something more efficient than a space heater that gives off light.  In fact
they've got some regulations in place attempting to coerce us to same.

CFL's are annoyingly dim, until you realize that if you wait 60 seconds and
look again, they have reached something close to their normal operating
output.  Due to a limited attention span, I did not notice this for quite
some time.
