Further down in the article they say "The current sensor clamps onto
the battery lead(s) as shown here. Make sure that all the leads to one
battery terminal are included", so the drawing could be to emphasise
that all current-carrying wires connected directly to the battery should
be included in the measurement

Something I've been looking at for motion sensors. Allegro also make
a few handy specialist products, like photoflash chargers for example,
another thing on my To-Do list
