That would be silly as those don't come in surface mount.  Besides, you'd
need a few 12AU7As to go with the 6L6s.

I don't think any of the 16F are really for newcomers or for general hobby
use.  Their purpose is low cost for volume production, and they are quite
good at that.  A good general purpose hobby part is the 18F2620.  It's also
actually easier to program than the 16F parts.
