A while ago I compared a lot of RGB LEDs, and found that  Avago do some parts that are about as
bright as Nichia : 
ASMT-QTB0-0AA02  (PLCC-4)
ASMT-YTB0-0AA02 (PLCC-6)
These and the Nichia were significantly better than all the rest

Incidentally America II list quite a lot of the NSSM016 in stock, so that may be a source  for
sub-reel qtys.
