How about enough lights, buzzers, and sirens that a theif would not want to
take the chance the intrusion event isn't being transmitted to the
authoroties.

And/or hidden cameras.  That wouldn't prevent intrusion, but might give you
a good chance to deal with it later.  The first incident could significantly
deter subsequent ones.
