Prior to x86, Intel was also well known for the 8080 (first "personal  
computer" microprocessor, sort of) the 8008 (first 8-bit  
microprocessor), 4004 (first integrated CPU) and the 1103 ("first  
available DRAM chip", which rather revolutionized the mainframe  
computer industry as well.)  Even if the personal computer had never  
come along, I think we'd be saying that Intel Shaped the world...
