It seems undeniable (it always does :-) ) that the IBM PC and all its' children and the processor family that it both nurtured and was nurtured by had a significant role in where we are now and how we got here. Without those two we may have better or faster computers, or not, but they would be very different ones. I think it would be hard not to let Allan's original "shaped" stand.
