Yes, all boards need some kind of 5 pin ICD connector! I also design boards with 0603 jumpers on the Reset Capacitor, and 2 programming pins to isolate them from their external connections. I put a low value resistor there or solder blob when done programming. Long live my ICD2 Microchip cheap debug frisbie thingy! I am thinking ICD3 next? I have an ICE 2000, never use it, too expensive to buy the modules! To save pins, like Wouter mentioned, you can stack several of those round Machine Pin sockets on a pic, but they cost almost as much as the pic?
