I thought we were talking about storing/recall  data, not Program.

The only real reason to use 18F8xJxx for Program memory is if you exceed 
128K bytes, then indeed external chips using SPI, I2C, SD card, or 
de-multiplexing a single 8bit port is no use.

If you need more than 128K byte PROGRAM memory, is the 8 bit PIC a 
correct choice compared to an off the shelf OS + PIC 32 or ARM?
