No, I think people are saying Vss. Or a touch above it.
Can you give me the part code to check just in case it happens to an odd one 
that works differently or needs negative bias. I assume you have no 
resistors or pots, so you are want to know if it will work without. I have a 
white on blue LCD lying around here that may be similar, but I need the part 
number to be sure, if it happens to be the same model (unlikely, but 
possible) I can see what will work for you.
