The text is easily readable and a good OCR program would have no trouble with it. I would guess that Google purchases these articles already in digital format, instead of scanning the microfilm. When I scan documents at work (e.g., signed copies) I let Acrobat OCR them as well. It doesn't take long and sometimes being able to search within the document comes in handy.
