:: Some of my colleagues at work have told me that com port :: assignments :: to FTDI devices can change even if they are not unplugged. I don't see how this could happen. Windows will store the USB/drive enumeration in registry. If the USB device is not unplugged before Windows shutdown, the enumeration stays in registry, which is always read on loading before USB ports are queried. Unless the FTDI chip changes it's PID/VID with a power reset. One of my programmers uses the FTDI and it survives it's assigned COM 6 allocation after a power down, though this uses the VCP driver.
