I agree that [...] This is curious: I used a Simulator 3 days ago for the 2nd or 3rd time in my whole life... for the circuit I talked about in my post, this morning. I indeed never felt like, nor the need. I usually do know some parts, I can read datasheets, I can do maths and I know Ohm's law :) I did know how to make up that (simple) one. And I was going to make up a real circuit to test for the linearity (my only issue). Then I had that idea... and tried a couple of free software, and I indeed liked LTSpice.
