Have you seen .NET running on Linux or Mac? Of course, there is the Wine and Mono project, but that is officially not supported and to be honest Microsoft is not very happy seeing these around -- only that some guys decided to make it work like that. In opposed to that, Java was designed to be multi platform, officially supporting all of these. It proven works on many different machines and operating systems for many years now. Getting back to the original subject, Microchip would not be able to develop a multi platform MPLAB in .NET and C#, would they?
