1. Will have a look at xwisp, thanks for hint.

2. ICSP: good idea, I know that, but the hardware is ready since months and
no pins left, pity. Nobody was able to foresee so many changes, 24
meanwhile...and no end in sight....

3. Bootloader not possible - no program space left.

4. 16F877 was just an example, in fact I use a 16F877A for this application,
but it will be replaced by a 887 as soon, as the tests are over.

Of course such is possible. For instance, my xwisp application can read a
.hex file, alter a specific word, and then write the file back.

A simple in-circuit programmer would be a better idea: pickit2 would be a
good candidate: it has both a GUI and a command line application.

Or use a bootloader...

the actual command line for xwisp would be:
    xwisp target 16f877 go myprog.hex

Are you seriously using the 16F877? Consider at least the 877A, or better
the 887.
