If you are looking for FREE and easy, try out jalv2.

I believe it is better then PIC basic. PIC basic only supports 16F PIC's.
Have they stopped upgrading it? JalV2 supports 16F & 18F. Jalv2 supports
over 300 PIC's. Besides, you have to pay for PIC basic.
