Hi,

I just thought I mention it here and seems right kind of people are
reading - so I might get answers to my question.

I am writing Linux-software for USB-scope, namely Velleman PCSGU250.

It has a function generator also.
Velleman has been very helpful with information how to communicate
with the scope and those documents are going to be available to
anybody.

Specs says it's bandwith is 12Mhz
I don't know whether it can handle 12MHz at the same time from both channels.

Here in Finland it is not very expensive. It is about 250 euros.

My project status is about 25%. I try to get something out in 3-4
weeks. This is my first stab at a large C++ program and I probably
done all the errors a beginner can make - make that a double. User
interface is based on QT, which is great - but big.

Anyway could someone please explain to me how to compare scopes. I
know it is big question but main points would be nice.
Also good pointers to web-sites about good oscilloscope information appreciated.

How the pretrigger capture of data can be done with PC-scopes? At
least Velleman works so, that it captures data and then sends it over
to PC via USB. I have understood there is a PIC which handles this
FPGA->PIC->PC traffic. I have not been yet able to figure out whether
there are blind points at the time communication to PC is taking place
- anyone?

I have newer played with a very expensive scope so therefore a stupid
question. On those the capturing is happening all the time and the
computer inside them is handling the data continuously - right? So on
those pretrigger is easy, just a circular buffer...

Why on earth Scope manufacturers use Windows in a scope and not Linux
which is lot better - only my opinion.

Which is the best PC-Scope available?
