The other advantage of the 886 is that it has Mchip's nanowatt system. So you can run using just the onboard oscillator and you can use MCLR as a free input pin if you need it. I have a 16F887 floating around in my pile somewhere. I finally figured out that the picprg software I was using failed on it because of a string comparison (stopping at the 16F88 instead of realizing that 16F887 was longer, DOH!).
