I have been relatively favorably impressed by the improvement of EAGLE  
over time, and the level of support from CADSoft.   I get the sense  
that the developers pay attention, and things get better (though  
perhaps slowly, reflecting a relatively small company.)  (This could  
get worse with the acquisition, though.  Or better.)

KiCad hasn't been around long enough to rate similar enthusiasm, and a  
depressing amount of open-source software seems to drift off into  
obscurity if the original developers tire, and the community doesn't  
include enough other developers to carry on.
