No, it is only standard on cars and light trucks (defined as GVW < 8500 lb) MY1996 and newer. > Will OBD II provide odometer readings ? This is not part of OBD-II, but as Neil said if you only need "relative" odometer readings, you can continuously integrate speed over time. The results can be very accurate. > Will OBD II provide engine RPM info ? > Will OBD II provide speedometer info ? Yes, in fact I'm yet to see a single OBD-II compliant vehicle that did not support either of those parameters. > Will OBD II interact with door locks ? No, but the same bus is often used for inter-module communications (especially on older Ford and GM vehicles that use the J1850 protocols). On newer cars it is often more difficult because they use a separate bus. > Will OBD II shut down an engine ? There are two ways to accomplish this. We found that on some J1850 vehicles (ex: early 2000s Chevy trucks) that use the OBD bus for communication between the engine & transmission modules, it is possible to stall the engine by putting the bus in a dominant state (thereby inhibiting communication). Sometimes the engine stalls just because a long message (like the VIN) was requested by the tester. One engineer told me how he managed to record the message sequence for unlocking doors by hooking up a sniffer, then calling OnStar and telling them that he's been locked out of his vehicle. OnStar was recently used to remotely disable a vehicle involved in a high speed chase for the first time. Use your imagination. ;) Best regards, Vitaliy Maksimov ScanTool.net, LLC +1 623 582-2366 http://www.scantool.net -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
