Quoting Chris Pearson : > Will OBD II provide odometer readings ? > Not that I've ever run into. Usually only accessible with expensive dealer > scan tools (ie proprietary software). Easy to calculate with a microcontroller since you have a clock and OBD-II provides live speedo data. > ... > > Will OBD II shut down an engine ? > Don't think so. Probably need a hardware solution. In the aftermarket > electronics world one might use a relay to break power on a vehicle ignition > wire (advanced systems might pulse this relay to allow for a more gradual > shutdown of vehicle power). Don't kill ignition, as this can result in hydrolock. I've always felt that it would take a significant compression ratio to cause this, but it has apparently happened to others. Yes, cutting fuel can theoretically cause a temporary lean condition, but it's for a very short time, and many vehicles use this method for redline cutoff.
