You can make a SOP to DIP adapter fairly easily- SOP is 1/2 the pitch of DIP, so if you take a .1" protoboard (http://tinyurl.com/y99sr8r) and slice the strips in half lengthwise with a hobby knife, you can solder an SOP to it. To make an adapter you just cut down a chunk of protoboard (metal shear or a beefy paper cutter for this) and mount it on a socket with the appropriate connections made. Ready for breadboarding.
