I bought some cheepo $2 laser pointers at MicroCenter.  I am planning  
to replace the 3 button batteries with a 5V supply.  Will I have to  
current limit the supply ?  I find that shining the laser through a  
thin ( 1/8 inch ) transparent rod causes a low quality line to form.   
Is there some kind of commercially available diffraction grid that  
will create a line ?   What is the best shape ?  Parabolic ?   ????    
I am using the line to align items to a ceiling mounted camera.   I  
use the camera to photograph objects on my desk.   ( Books ,  
magazines , PCBs , ..... )
