So I conclude that CLKO is always going to reflect the clock that is selected to go to the processor. I should say, "ultimately selected", since figure 2-1 shows there are quite a few switches between the oscillators and the processor (and other destinations). It appears it will give you what you want. I haven't actually tried it, though.
