I have a design where I used to use the L6202's... probably a total of 100pcs/month. And, they were pretty much the leading cause of failures and rmas. Like probably a 3-4% lifetime failure rate. A couple of years ago, I switched to the LMD18200 and have yet to see a failed LM18200. Ever. I haven't even been able to kill one on the bench when abusing it on purpose. Of course I didn't do something like put thousands of volts through it, but things like dead shorts don't even make the thing blink. Of course, I buy them 250 or 500 at a time so the price isn't quite as bad as the $18 in singles...
