Last time when I worked for the previous company, I was kind of all-in-one person: HW design, FW design (small/simple) and Project Management (coordinating the Optics, Mechanical, PCB, Industrialization, Standards testing as well as communicate with the product manager). We use in-house developed Project Management software and Excel. It is kind of typical in the automation world that project lasted quite long. So the project plan was quite flexible and we could adapt to the situation. Quality was always more important than time to market. It seems to be very different from the consumer industry. From an outsider, the things seemed to be moving slowly and sometimes there were no deadlines. But I could see the benefits -- reliable product, quality you expected from a Germany vendor.
