Because you have many other choices for PICs. SDCC is a great project and is said to be very good for 8051s. But SDCC for PIC is really not up to the maturity of its 8051 part. SDCC for PIC is by no means comparable to the quality of gcc for AVR/ARM/MSP430 either. For work, Microchip's compiler is really quite low cost. And then, you have free version of other PIC compilers which are good for many users. For example, all Microchip and HiTech compilers comes with unlimited code size version with only some limitations on the optimization side. So they may be good for majority of the hobbyists/students market. Actually you can use Microchip free compilers for commercial purpose as well. That being said, there are success story which uses SDCC for PIC. -- = Xiaofan http://mcuee.blogspot.com -- = http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
