Was it locked?
Maybe its related to this?
 From the MultiSim 8 user manual:

Note: The Single User Edition is only licensed on the computer on which 
you install it. If for
any reason you wish to move the software to a different computer, you 
must first
uninstall it from the initial computer, and then re-install it onto the 
new computer. In
this case, you must contact Electronics Workbench to receive a new 
Release Code.
