Without going into the obvious tangent, what on earth do they mean?

I suspect it means they are not tied to one manufacturers equipment, 
although they go on to specify Nortel and Cisco equipment experience.

OK, I can't resist, I suppose if they were an  ' athiest 
communications specialist' - they would be a company that doesn't 
believe in it's own products!

I can think of many employers who regard their employees in that 
manner. :)
