I have seen shoe chains (similar idea to tire chains - a set of small-gauge chain with elastic parts which hooks around your shoe, with the chain passing underneath for greater traction). From personal experience, I can also say that some kinds of work boots (like the kind which are often steel-toed) have pretty good traction on ice.
