There's a very brief comment hidden in the PIC18F4550 documentation that a 0.22 (or even 0.47) uf cap is needed from Vusb - ground. I recently purchased one of Microchip's dev boards that didn't have this cap, and the board was not properly enumerated as a USB device until I added it. Surprising to me that a board that's been around for a few years would have an error like that. Regarding the schmetics, drawing an understandable schematic is definitely at art. I agree with one of the other replies that I like caps to be generally vertical. The bypass caps between Vdd and Vss caused me to do a doubletake - I had to look closely to sort out their function in my mind. One additonal comment....where I have connections going in 2 directions, around the LEDs for example, I usually line up the junctions, one part going up, the other down in this case, just to minimize the number of junctions on the page.
