This is exactly what I was thinking of when I read Colin's post about the custard. I think there's a rubber tube and hole in the bottom of the tin involved, too; used to blow the powder around the tin, which was either a Golden Syrup or Birds Custard tin I think. I think that it appeared in a Ladybird book, which is where I remember seeing it. Never tried it though.
