Any Mac users out there?

I'm interested in getting the functionality of a Time Capsule, without
actually paying for the full thing. I was wondering if anyone has any
experience with automated backup solutions for Mac.

What I'm looking for is an amount of storage, be it USB or Ethernet,
that can be accessed as storage, but also supports the automatic backing
up the Time Machine supports.

I've looked at the solutions on the store shelves and it looks like some
USB hard drives support what I need, is there anything I need to be
careful about? Any particular model people could recommend? I'd like to
find something in the $125 range. 

Are any of the cheaper NAS solutions supported by Time Machine
(connecting by ethernet would be nice, but not required)?
