I got a few stares once when I showed up with a soldering gun, claiming I
was going to use it to see how resistant to power glitches the device under
test was :)

At least one reason for opening the case was to replace the switch, as I
wore out the one on my gun.  I was able to buy a replacement (the good old
days).  That left me with the Steven Wright-esque question of, "What do you
use to solder in the switch in a soldering gun?"
