I took the iron bit as drying the ink to prevent running; it probably also fixes it to the board better. Just done a few google searches, and found this page: Looks like they supply kits/products for this technique. In there they say: "After printing, the board is dried and then etched immediately" So looks like I may be correct - but I don't have 1st hand experience of this technique so standard BS disclaimer applies :) Looks like they're also taking advantage of the direct-to-CD models of printer.
