No, the circulation for the two magazines will remain separate, at least
for now.
I finally heard from Steve this morning, and he said I could forward the
following release.

Press Release
Elektor, Circuit Cellar Announce Merger of Electronics Media Powerhouses
December 1, 2009 - Limbricht, The Netherlands and Vernon, CT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Elektor International Media, publisher of Elektor magazine and Circuit
Cellar, The Magazine for Computer Applications, are pleased to announce a
strategic partnership effective December 1, 2009.
Elektor is an internationally active publisher of magazines, newsletters,
books and websites for professionals with a passion for electronics, with
publications in ten languages worldwide. In addition, the company with
headquarters in the Dutch province of Limburg produces electronic products,
organizes trade shows, study tours and workshops, and markets educational
products and services under the Elektor Academy banner.
Circuit Cellar is the leading U.S. magazine for computer electronics. It was
founded in 1988 by the renowned engineer Steve Ciarcia, following a long
period during which he was jointly responsible for the success of Byte, the
world's largest magazine for computer technology. Ciarcia will remain
associated with Elektor and Circuit Cellar as a consultant and columnist.
Circuit Cellar's headquarters will remain in Vernon, Connecticut, and the
current editorial review board will be retained. Both Circuit Cellar
Magazine and Elektor USA will continue to be published as separate titles
and subscription options.
Paul Snakkers, Director and shareholder of Elektor, commented: "I am very
enthusiastic about this acquisition. When we launched an edition of Elektor
magazine specifically for the US market in the fall of 2008, we quickly
discovered that our growth potential in the world's largest economy is
enormous. Now that we have its leading platform Circuit Cellar on board, we
can confidently say that we have the ideal bridgehead on the other side of
the ocean."
Steve Ciarcia is pleased that he has found a good home for his brainchild:
"I've been reading Elektor ever since the first issue, and I have a lot of
respect for their new flair and success since they were sold by Wolters
Kluwer. Now that I've accomplished my goals for Circuit Cellar, it's time to
pass the torch to a growth-oriented company with both the resources and
ambition to further the expansion and success of Circuit Cellar. Right after
we signed the agreement, we drafted several highly promising plans that can
give both Elektor and Circuit Cellar a strong boost in increasing their
international reputation, goodwill, profit and value. We determined that a
merger could be a win-win-win for subscribers, advertisers, and the
continued success of the high-end consumer electronics media market."
The U.S. activities of the combined Elektor and Circuit Cellar enterprise
will be managed by Hugo Van haecke, who among other things was previously
Financial Director of Wolters Kluwer Nederland and COO of Wolters Kluwer/CCH
in the United States.
Van haecke: "Beside the commercial and financial advantages of this
acquisition, it is bound to increase job satisfaction as well as customer
satisfaction. For me, these are equally good reasons - or even better
reasons - to be very happy with this acquisition."
In part thanks to the acquisition of Circuit Cellar, Elektor has doubled its
customer base and sales revenue since it parted company with Wolters Kluwer
in January 2006. In its outlook for 2010, the company expects to have more
than 50,000 regular customers and achieve a healthy sales figure of at least
10 million euros with 60 employees in five countries, most of them in the
Netherlands.
Elektor International Media BV is a subsidiary of Zhomer Media Business BV
(Hof van Twente, Overijssel, The Netherlands).
